Cheryl Holmén Dean

Cheryl Holmén Dean is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, ocean storyteller, and co-founder of Spindrift Images, where she and her creative partner Nick Dean produce films that blend science, stunning visuals, and compelling narratives to inspire action for ocean conservation.

Nick completed a PhD in the UK and then moved to the US where he spent 25 years in a successful scientific career, publishing more than 100 research articles before beginning filmmaking. With his wife Cheryl, he co-founded Spindrift Images, a documentary production company to create films that blend science, stunning visuals, and compelling narratives to inspire action for ocean conservation.

Their documentaries The Witness Is a Whale and The Right Whale have been broadcast internationally including on the BBC and featured in the UN World Wildlife Day Film Showcase. To amplify the impact of their films, they founded a 501c3 nonprofit and are currently leading an impact campaign to protect the remaining 370 North Atlantic right whales before it’s too late.
