Dr. Ladd Irvine is a Research Associate with the Marine Mammal Institute at Oregon State University. He studies how the ocean environment shapes large whale movement and feeding behavior using advanced satellite tags that track their underwater lives. Over more than 25 years in the field, Ladd has worked with blue, fin, humpback, gray, right, and sperm whales, leading more than 15 multi‑week tagging expeditions around the world and deploying over 450 tags. He has also led and assisted with the development, testing, and validation of new tag designs to improve robustness and data recovery. His work helps scientists and managers better understand whale behavior and how to protect these endangered animals as oceans change.
